On 14 November 2025, the European Commission unveiled a legislative proposal that could significantly reshape VAT oversight and anti-fraud cooperation across the European Union. The initiative would allow Member States to grant the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) direct access to VAT data, marking a major step toward a more unified and proactive enforcement framework capable of addressing increasingly sophisticated forms of cross-border VAT fraud.
